NATHAN REES will marry his long-term partner Stacey Haines over the Christmas break in what he has described as a small wedding for family and friends.

Ms Haines has scarcely been seen since Mr Rees became premier in September. At his first news conference Mr Rees, 40, revealed that he and Ms Haines were "engaged and getting married later this year . . . no children but we're trying".

He said: "We met as school kids many years ago, and I love her to bits."

In a statement to the Herald yesterday, Mr Rees said: "Long before I became Premier Stacey and I had planned a small wedding to be shared with an intimate gathering.

"It is important to us that our wedding plans remain unchanged, and we ask that people respect our wish for privacy."
